What are Your Wild Inspirations, Lord?
What is a wild inspiration?
What I have come to understand from wild inspirations is that they are secrets, ideas, or future blueprints that come from God when we meet Him in creation or elsewhere—when we set our human priorities aside, leave them behind, and resolve to listen and absorb all He draws our eyes, thoughts, hearts, feet, and hands toward. It is the place I prayerfully go and say, “Here I am, Lord.”
Wild inspirations have set me down paths and given me tasks that seemed random or insignificant at the time, only for Him to reveal an important use for them later, in His time. The most amazing part is how they sometimes serve to confirm His hand and presence in all these things. Sometimes He seems to organize things almost backwards, so that when they eventually come together, we cannot easily mistake them for our own accomplishments or achievements.
It takes courage and trust to live by wild inspiration. To live according to what you know rather than what your human eyes can see. Because through them, He continues to confirm what we read in Luke 18:27:
“But He said, ‘The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.’”
We also know that His plans and guidance will always align with Scripture and ultimately serve His purposes and the good of others. This is why a scripturally grounded relationship with Him is so encouraging and important. The more deeply we know His Word, the more familiar we become with His character, giving us a sound foundation from which to discern what reflects His voice and what does not.
Perhaps this is also why in Psalm 119:105, Scripture describes His Word as:
“a lamp to my feet and a light to my path”
A lamp does not illuminate the entire road ahead. It gives us enough light for the step we are standing in and the one He is asking us to take next.
Wild inspiration does not require us to see the whole blueprint. Sometimes it simply asks us to recognize the light He has already given us, trust the character of the One holding the rest, and faithfully take the next step.
